Dr. Tomas G. Teskey
Is the second oldest of five siblings in a five generation cattle ranching family in central Arizona. He followed in the footsteps of his father, graduating from the same veterinary school at Colorado State University in 1995 after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Northern Arizona University in 1991.
He has practiced large animal medicine and surgery in Arizona since graduation and has taken a special interest in equine podiatry over the last few
years, holding lectures and workshops on the hoof world wide. More recently, he introduced this exciting information to the veterinary students at his alma mater in Colorado in February of 1995 and held a workshop in Queensland, Australia in March of 2006.
The article, “The Unfettered Foot, A Paradigm Change for Equine Podiatry”, was published in the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science in February, 2005, sparking greater interest within the veterinary community about natural hoof care and it’s successes over conventional hoof care. Dr. Teskey and family have applied the principles of natural hoof care to their own horses, who now enjoy greater soundness and vitality, working in the same rough Western terrain as previous generations.
Having originally learned to shoe horses to get the job done, he has now led the way in developing a management program for superior health and soundness for the ranch horses and countless other equines in all kinds of disciplines and sporting events, and is a leading veterinary authority on the equine hoof and barefoot performance horse. He is dedicated to continued research surrounding appropriate hoofcare and looks forward to the many advances yet to come in this exciting field.
